NVDA Training
NVDA is a free screen reader for Windows produced by a non-profit organisation called NV Access. Unlike some other free screen readers, NVDA is surprisingly robust and can give immediate access to the Windows operating system and to many popular applications, including email and internet browsing.
NVDA is obviously not as fully featured and as customisable as expensive screen readers such as JAWS for Windows, but a thorough knowledge of NVDA's capabilities will enable you to use your computer without having to spend any money on a screen reader.
If you are at all concerned about NVDA's limitations, why not just download it from the NVDA website and try it out for yourself. You will be surprised at how comprehensive it is and JAWS users will be pleased to note that many of the hotkeys in NVDA are identical to those used in JAWS.
